The Breitling Aerospace has always been a watch for people who appreciate clever engineering as much as traditional watchmaking. First introduced as part of Breitling’s Professional range, the Aerospace took the idea of a pilot’s watch in a different direction. It combined an analogue display with a digital screen and a remarkably capable quartz movement, all within an exceptionally light titanium case.

This is the reference E75362, dating from 2003. It is one of the early Aerospace models to use Breitling’s COSC-certified SuperQuartz movement. For a watch that is now more than 20 years old, the technology remains impressive. The thermocompensated movement was designed to offer exceptional accuracy, with Breitling quoting performance of around 15 seconds per year in its Aerospace documentation.

The 40mm titanium case is a big part of what makes the Aerospace so enjoyable to wear. Despite its size, the watch is remarkably light on the wrist. The titanium bracelet continues that theme, while the sapphire crystal provides excellent resistance to everyday scratches. It is a proper tool watch, but one with considerably more personality than the description might suggest.

There is also plenty going on beneath the clean exterior. The Aerospace offers a chronograph, countdown timer, alarm, second time zone, calendar functions and minute repeater. The digital display can be illuminated when required, while the rotating bezel adds another useful element to the design. In short, this is a watch that was designed to be used rather than simply admired.

The E75362 also carries a genuine piece of Breitling history. The reference was produced in the early 2000s and represents one of the most technically interesting versions of the 40mm Aerospace. It sits at an interesting point in the brand’s history, when Breitling was combining traditional Swiss chronometer standards with increasingly sophisticated electronic technology.

This watch has just had a fresh battery fitted and has also been professionally polished, so it is looking particularly sharp. At £1,995, it offers a lot of watch for the money and is a particularly appealing option for anyone who wants something a little different from the usual mechanical Breitling.
